The Frame as Judgement

€400.00

I explore how framing adds a new dimension to soft sculpture. Through the interplay of rigid structures and organic forms, a dynamic tension arises between the hard and the soft, the confined and the free—inviting reflection and discovery. The edges of the frame can blur, shift, or even dissolve into the sculpture itself, making boundaries more of a suggestion than a limitation.

I extend this contrast between structure and softness to today’s world, with all its tensions: left versus right, East versus West, religious tensions, and many more...
It is often claimed that anything goes, that everything is allowed—but surely there must still be norms, values, and principles within which we function and coexist. I see this as the framework within and around which we twist and turn, testing what is acceptable and what perhaps is better left untouched. This inevitably creates tension... and even literal “tears,” as seen in some of my works.

Eventually, we do come to some form of agreement, which is expressed in this piece. The square frame has become less rigid and more filled in, it has adapted—but fortunately, forms still swirl around it that continue to challenge.
